Sweet Stampin' ~ Flowers
Hey crafty friends, it's time for a new theme at Sweet Stampin' and this time we want to see creations featuring flowers. I recently had a request from my mama to make a card for her Scottish bestie for her birthday. My brief was 'tartan and flowers', so this card is what I came up with. I remembered an old stamp I had in my digital stash from Just Inklined. I believe they've long retired the range now, but it had some quirky and fun stamps back in the day but also some really lovely elegant and more 'grown up' images. I have such a soft spot in my heart for Scotland, both my family and my hubby's have Scottish heritage. I come from MacIntyres and my hubby from Cameron of Erracht. So I'd tucked this stamp away, knowing I'd want to use it one day. So when my mummy suggested using some tartan for the design and some flowers, I thought of this image and found a paper that worked to complete the look.
The paper is actually from a Halloween paper pad from Honey Bee, but had a really lovely purple plaid that worked so well for the design I'd envisioned. I printed out the digital stamp and coloured it with my Copic Markers, then added a little ink blended blue sky around it. I cut the frame with a gorgeous frilly edge die from Tattered Lace, another long retired bit of stash, but still as lovely as the day I bought it, so fun to pull out for a play. I finished the design with some sticky-back pearls from my stash. These were from a company that has now sadly retired their line too. Things can be so tough out there in the craft industry. It makes me want to support the brands I love all the more. The sentiment which is tone on tone stamped on the paper bottom left is from an older Penny Black Stamp Set. I'll have to hunt down the exact stamp set and get back to you with those details. Right, I found it, the Penny Black Stamp Set is called Friendship, it's a much older one, so I couldn't find a link to it any longer, but have added the picture to the thumbnails below for reference.
I don't often decorate the inside of my cards, but when it's a commission and for someone important (my Mummy, 'nuff said!) I like to add a little interest to the inside of the card too. This one is very simple. I knew I had an image of Edinburgh Castle, which I thought would be a fun way to finish this Scottish inspired card, so I printed it in the bottom left corner of a card insert (just paper I've measured to fit the card size I'm working with) then I stamped the birthday greeting inside the card to complete it. This greeting is also from a Penny Black Stamp set called Sprinkles and Smiles.
Thanks for popping in to visit today friends. I hope you'll click through above to our challenge blog and see what my talented teamies got up to for this challenge too. Mad talented bunch that lot!
