Whimsy Stamps ~ Fight Like A Girl

Hey crafty friends, I'm back with my next post as promised. I have a dear friend going through chemotherapy right now and her story just breaks me. She is so courageous despite many hiccups in her journey of healing and though the sentiment on this card is a little flippant, it's made and shared with great love and to encourage her and raise her spirits. I hope she'll have a giggle and that it'll arrive on a day that she needs it.

I started this design with the boxing gloves image in mind. My pal has a kiddie who is an awesome boxer and doing really well with it right now. So I was drawn to this image and to the metaphor that it would be for her. That sentiment 'fight like a girl', which I've used as my title for this post and which is often used when encouraging those fighting breast cancer, just felt poignant and appropriate and I hope will reach her heart.

I had a really cool background stamp from Whimsy in my stash which is a military camo stamp. I used two different pink Distress Oxide inks to stamp the design, Spun Sugar and Victorian Velvet and turned the stamp 90 degrees before stamping the second colour, so they overlapped differently giving that cool traditional camo effect, but in pink! I decided to use this to create the background for the design before I figured out what I actually wanted to do with it. But once I'd thought through some options, realised if would be really cool to stamp the image directly over the background and fussy cut the image out in a paper piecing style. I added some additional shading with Copic Markers, but the camouflage print is definitely the star of that piece.

I added some gentle ink blending with Spun Sugar Oxide Ink, then stamped the sentiment directly on the textured paper background. I have some cool cardstock which I think has what is called a weave texture. It adds some fun extra interest to a more simple card design. I added a tiny trim of black cardstock down the side of the panel, which I trimmed to 3 3/4 inches. I mounted the image panel on foam and the image itself was added over the ink blended area popped up on foam too. I added a narrow strip of the camouflage stamped design down the left side before adding the foam mounted panel, to tie it all together.

We've just had another fun release at Whimsy and that's linked above if you'd like a closer look at it. I'll be back again as soon as I have a little more creative time. Until then, have a beautiful week. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Such a wonderful card Wends - love your creative process - the 'camo' paper you created is perfect in the way you have used it, and that sentiment is a classic - this is one fabulous result.

A brilliant card Wends and it's sure to make her smile. I too have a dear friend, Daphne, who has just had her first of six cycles of chemo. She has lymphoma which, although awful, is a far better outcome than was first thought. Initial investigation pointed to tongue cancer so, although she has a tough road ahead, she won't need invasive surgery. Lets wish them both some good days ahead xx
