Everyday Super Heroes

Ooh I'm so excited and privileged to be posting my first 'official' DT post for the Fab 'n' Funky challenge. I've been really looking forward to this, as I LOVE Kenny K images. They're so fun and I found the perfect image for a thank you card I've been needing to write in Kenny K's Super Mom.

My Mother-in-law is an amazing lady, very talented in a great number of areas, but especially so with cloth, which I utterly am not! We had a wonderful visit from my in-laws, when we were shifting house over the Christmas break and noting that we were missing a curtain in the kitchen, (which left us rather exposed to the neighbours), my mother-in-law measured it up and within a week or so of their return home, I had a very exciting parcel, with all I needed to thread and hang the fabulous sheer curtain she'd made for the kitchen.

I'm blessed to have some amazing role models in my life. My own lovely mummy and my wonderful mother-in-law are two of the best I know! So this card is being sent to my mother-in-law as thanks for her wonderful sewing and this post is in celebration of these 'Everyday Super Heroes' in my life.

I used a large 8x8 card blank and found a lovely matching paper for the colour I'd chosen to ink up the apron in a Scrapbook Magazine paper pack giveaway from American Crafts called The Sweet Shop Collection. Typical of me to ink the stamp up first and then spend ages hunting for 'the perfect' colour match in my papers. This was just that however and I love that it was a very similar design to the gingham pattern I'd added to the apron. I just used the tip of my Promarker and it worked really well. The lovely textured peach coloured mat is a ColorCore Cardstock from Darice and the fun 'aprons' paper is a fab digital paper from the Raspberry Road Domestic Goddess set.

The challenge this week at Fab 'n' Funky is to use 'brads'. So I inked up some yellow stars I had in my stash and added some Distress Stickles in Tattered Rose to alter the bright yellow of the original brads, to a softer tone that would work in with my colour scheme. Love that they ended up with a fun textured look too. I kept the 'star' theme going with the large pearlescent star and as my thank you card was for some amazing sewing my mother-in-law had done, I popped a cute Die-Versions 'Sweet Petite' Sewing Machine on too which I first inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. All the papers were edged with this ink too. I made the sentiment up on my computer and for the final touch threaded some multicoloured twine behind the image in a criss cross pattern.
