Flower Power ~ Fab 'n' Funky
Hi ya, thanks for popping in to see me today. I've a pretty make to share with you for our latest Fab 'n' Funky Challenge. One of my best friends in the whole world has just celebrated her birthday. We've been friends since we were 13 years old. We navigated the challenges of high school at each other's side and have played very special roles in each others lives since. She was Maid of Honour at my wedding and Georgie at 18 months old was her little Flower Girl. I realised as I was preparing her birthday card, that we have known and loved each other for 30 years now. That's something I think is worth celebrating! I chose a gorgeous image for her birthday card which I coloured up to resemble her. Long flowing blonde hair, striking blue eyes. That's my pal! She's always been 'model' beautiful and looks just the same today as she did when we finished high school.
The image I've used is a gorgeous 'Dilly Beans' image and happily they are our sponsor for the current Fab 'n' Funky Challenge. The challenge this time is 'Flower Power' as chosen by my lovely DT pal Sujin. Our generous sponsor Dilly Beans is offering the winner 3 of their gorgeous digital images as the prize and the lovely Kathryne of Stampart Design by Kathryne is sponsoring us with 5 digital images. So it's a great time to pull out your floral papers or images with floral designs and come join in our fab challenge.
I coloured the gorgeous image in with my Promarkers and used a blue colour pencil just around the hair to add a little 'sky' rather than leave it white. The background stamps are from a fabulous 'Panduro Hobby' clear stamp set that I bought in Sweden one of the last times I visited my darling pal there. The set is called 'Vintage' and has a really great range of stamps, from postmarks, stamps, to the pocket watch I've used here. I used my Vintage Photo Distress Ink to edge the paper and to tone down the bright pink I'd cut the mat from. It was really 'loud' on this beautiful vintage paper by Michele Roos for Whimsy Designs. So inking it softened the colour and it blended in far better. I also inked the Tim Holtz Weathered Clock from Sizzix which I'd cut from Dies To Die For Kraft card. I cut the card itself from the Kraft card.
The flowers I wanted to have a little dimension, especially as this is our challenge focus, so I have decoupaged the flowers from a second print of the pretty paper, adding dimension to three of the hydrangea tips, the two middle roses and the largest rose in the corner. I think it's just 'enough' to gift it that little lift it was needing. I used my Pinflair Glue Gel for all the decoupage. It's my favourite glue medium for this, as you can shape the elements and the exact amount of glue you need to add just the right level of lift you want.
Here's a little montage of the different elements of the card. I love these butterflies, they came with some lovely bits and pieces I bought from a Kiwi craft store when I arrived home in New Zealand and worked perfectly on this card to highlight the blue eyes in the image. Just the finishing touch I was looking for!
Finally a mention about the sweet sentiment stamp. It's from a great set by Amy R Stamps for CC Designs. I love these words, they fit many different occasions and I think are lovely on a birthday card. Don't look too closely at the card, as I unfortunately didn't get the stamp quite straight, which bugs me no end, but when I tried to use the second paper print to rectify the situation, I mucked that one up even worse! So decided to leave it as is. Hubby thought it was okay, and he's pretty critical of my work, so I figured it was passable.
Thanks for popping in on my lil' corner of blogland today and please do join us for the current Fab 'n' Funky challenge. Flower Power is a nice easy challenge theme so come join in the fun. I'll be back soon with another card and check back for my celebration candy, which is coming soon. Hugs, Wends x
