Sweet Stampin' - Things With Wings

Hey lovely crafting pals. It's that time again, a new challenge has started over at Sweet Stampin' and this week we have the ever popular 'Things With Wings' theme. It's no secret I have quite a lot of fairies in my stamp collection. I do love these wee creatures. So when I was thinking about what to make for my Swedish pal whose birthday is today, I knew it had to be Sugar Nellie (my fav's, no surprise there!). This wee fairy, sitting looking so wistful and thoughtful on her toadstool, I thought was perfect, because my pal is so much on my mind right now. The last few years before we left London, we had a little ritual that I would go to Sweden and spend her birthday with her. So the last couple of birthdays, has had me longing for Sweden, the snow, my pal's company and a glass of glögg!

Those of you who know me, know I have a little thang for Sugar Nellie stamps, especially their fairies drawn by Marina Fedotova. Oh my, her images are just the cutest, most wistful, enchanting characters and Sugar Nellie has had a long line of these gorgeous images in their catalogue. I have to confess, I've never actually inked this fairy up before. Despite having her in my collection for quite a number of years! Naughty me. I just needed to get around to putting some cling foam on and I was set. I do think she's come up really well. I should have used a light grey around the image, to make her 'pop' off the page better. But I forgot to, in my haste to finish the card.

I've coloured this gorgeous gal with my Promarkers and a couple of Flexmarkers too. I do love to use a 'close palette' in my colouring, so some of my shadowing gets a bit lost. I'll have to get more adventurous. I've liberally covered her wings in Stickles after shading them. The gorgeous fennel like bloom is a Memory Box die. I don't use this often and really think I should more, as it's fab. I cut 3 different colours and tied them with twine. Simple but perfect for this card I think.

The sentiment is a Magnolia stamp and I've used it lots this year. It's just perfect for so many occasions. I used an MFT fishtail stax die to cut out the sentiment and inked all the edges of the papers with Tea Dye Distress Ink.

Come on over and check out what my awesomely talented teamies have been up to on the Sweet Stampin' blog and join in our fun challenge. We are sponsored this week by the wonderful crew at Stamp & Create who are offering the winner a very generous $20 to spend in their store.

Things With Wings is a favourite challenge theme of mine, so let's see how many of you love it too! Thanks for popping in today, and I'll see you all again soon. Hugs, Wends x

Her face reminds me of the lead character, who is 'Wendy's daughter from Peter Pan. It's a really sweet sequel to the original Peter Pan and has a beautiful song in it too. My children love it.)

Update: This card won 'Top 3' in the 'As You Like It' challenge.
