Southern Girls ~ It's a Stick Up!

Hey there lovelies, it's time for a new challenge at Southern Girls and this week we are wanting to see creations with 'Stickers' on them! How fun is that?! Pull out your puffy stickers, your planner stickers, your kids stickers and go mad! We can't wait to see what this inspires you to do. I must confess, I had a bit of a time with this, as I tried some watercolouring for the sweet image I was given to use by our sponsor and I think the paper I used was not high quality enough for a good finish as the colour didn't move well and it ended up very saturated!

If it were not for the fact that I believe we learn from our mistakes, I'd just have binned this! But I think it's fun to look back and reflect on our crafty journey and the things we learn along the way. So there it is, my epic fail, that looks, quite frankly, like a 3 year old did it! LOL. But I had SUCH fun adding the stickers, that I totally embraced my inner 3 year old and just went with it! Hehe.

The pic above is the finished card once I finally decided which elements worked. Before that, the card went through a few different permutations. At one point it looked like the pic below. I had no sentiment on it and had used a sparkly heart in the top left corner, but it just didn't look balanced to me.

I was frustrated but determined to keep trying. So I pulled off the heart and added both the jellyfish in the top left corner and the wee octopus in the bottom right. I later decided it needed a sentiment and so added another sticker, which is a lovely rose gold reflective sticker that reads Bold Brave Beautiful. I really loved that, but getting the right light to capture the sentiment was a real trick!

I pulled out quite a few different sticker sets to try and find the elements that would work for this creation. The sweet mermaid picture is from Kinda Cute, who are our sponsors this week. So I ended up choosing the sweet Doodlebug Design Shape Sprinkles that were nautically themed to work in with the sweet image.

I think the stickers are so cute and if only I were a child, this would be kinda epic. But no, I'm in my 40's and this definitely looks like a 3 year old did it! LOL. But aren't the stickers the cutest?!!

I'm disappointed the image didn't come up better, as I was trying some newer watercolours I have, the Gansai Tambi and I've heard such great things about them, I was hoping for a 'WOW' creation. But you're only as good as the base elements you use and I must confess, I used a cheaper paper that is a 'multi-purpose' paper, so not a designated watercolour paper. It says on the label that it does ink, pencil, acrylic and watercolour! So I should have realised then, that it would be an inferior product. It really does pay to use the specialist papers. But I must say, I loved the metallic paint that I used on her tail. If you look closely it has a pretty sheen and some 'scales' on her tail, created with the pearlescent paint. So I know I'll have fun trying these paints again, but on better paper!

I hope you'll come and play along with our 'Stickers' challenge at Southern Girls. Even though this make totally tanked, I had such fun creating it and I can't wait to see what you're inspired to do! Do pop in and check out what the rest of my talented teamies got up to, I've had a peek and they're fabulous!

I'll be back again VERY soon with another crafty creation, so until then, have a fabby day and happy crafting. Hugs, Wends xoxo
