Whimsy Stamps ~ Sweet Sixteen

Hey lovely crafty friends, I'm swinging in today with a cute gift box I've made in the lead up to my daughter's 16th birthday. She had a 'sock hop' a few years back for school and this image SO made me think of that night. I thought it was super cute and would make a really lovely centrepiece for this creation. This sweet image is from the new Some Odd Girl digital range that is now part of our Whimsy Stamps Digital Ranges. I've loved Kristy Dalman's creations for a number of years now and so was super excited when the news broke that her range was joining Whimsy! So I'm having fun exploring this new to Whimsy, range. Honestly, I could colour forever and never get to create with all the images I love!

I've created a gift box that I'm going to be giving Georgie a few little jewellery treats in for her birthday and decided I'd create a box base, but then dress it up with a wrap. So I used the most delish Whimsy Stamps paper pack to cover the box and then created a wrap to put over it, which the ribbon is laced through the base of to keep it in place nicely. The box could go with either the pretty floral sides showing or the stripes. I opted for the stripes, so that when you pull out the box, the pretty floral paper is an added surprise.

This image gives you a good idea of how it looks with the stripy side on view and the ribbon wrapped over it. Gosh, this ribbon, I have to say, is SO super pretty! I believe it was from the Ribbon Girl before they stopped trading and it is gorgeous. It has the prettiest glittery sparkle on it, so makes the loveliest finish to this gift box.

I created a pretty inky background for the image, with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink and then popped up the image on foam to give it some dimension. I splattered the background before adding the image with white and pearl paints for a bit of interest. I used an older Whimsy die to cut the frame, which was a little longer than I wanted, so diecut the first 3 sides and then cut the bottom to the size I needed it to be. Love doing this trick, your images don't always 'have to' fit the frame, you can make the frame fit your image.

I created the box base and covered that with the different pretty Whimsy Stamps papers from their Fabulous Florals paper pack, I adore this paper set, there are many sets I love from Whimsy's paper collection, but this set may just be my favourite! So many versatile designs and it's time I bought a refill! I decided to create my own background for the image panel, having already used 3 coordinating papers from the paper pack. So pulled out some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide and blended that to create this very pinkalicious backdrop. Pink on pink, it's a lot right? But I think for this design, it really works and I am so happy with the finish. The gorgeous Some Odd Girl Image called Poodle Skirt Mae really is perfect for what I wanted on this design. I did crop the image to make her fit the box shape, which I think worked a treat!

So that's it from me today. A sweet creation for my baby girl's 16th birthday, I can hardly believe it! Where has that time gone!! She's such a beautiful soul, I want to make this birthday really special for her, so I'm working hard on creating a few lovely treats. This is the first that I've completed, but I'll be back to share some more.

The next creation may need to be a bit more 'edgy' as her latest request is a radical hair cut and to dye it black! So perhaps a more gothic looking character, hehe. I'm looking to find the 'right' image for that. She keeps me on my toes my girlie! I'll be back soon with more crafty adventures, in the meantime, have a wonderful week! Hugs and happy crafting xoxo
