Whimsy Weekend Fun Mixed With A Little Sadness

Hey crafty friends, it's a long weekend here in New Zealand, but we will be staying home, as hubby is still recovering from his surgery and the kids start school on Tuesday, so apart from fresh haircuts for them both and some outings with friends for them, it'll be a crafty weekend for me! Oh how I've longed for a few hours in my craft room this week! So bring it on! In the meantime, I've a quick share of a Whimsy creation I've made for one of my lovely friends who not long ago lost her beautiful and very beloved Great Dane. At least I think she was a Great Dane, she could have been a Danish Broholmer, I'm not 100% sure. But what I have been sure about, was that I knew exactly the stamp set I wanted to use to send her a little love, but had neither the set nor the time to create. I am always such a last minute lass anyway, so hopefully she'll forgive me! I was determined to get this card created, so I have since bought the set and this is what came of this crafty wee adventure.

I have used my Copic Markers to colour the image and create the scene. I started with a much lighter sky, but kinda messed up the clouds, so decided to deepen the colour to see if I could rescue the piece and actually, I kinda love the sunset silhouette look I ended up with.

What isn't obvious in the main pictures is the sparkle around the doggy, I added an 'ethereal' glow around her, because of course she is a Spirit Doggy now. I wanted to 'remember' her with my friend, but also acknowledge her passing, I thought a gentle sparkle around her would be a nice way to do this.

I coloured the images in greyscale, trying to create the 'silhouette' feel against the fading sunset and I am super happy with how this came out. I've used all Cool Grey's in the Copic line from C8 to C00 to create this look. I also wanted it to look like there was a bit of light coming from the setting sun around them both, so went for lighter edges and darker centres. I'm not really 'au fait' with light source colouring, so totally winged it.

One of the final touches was to add some sparkly stars. I used a mixture of silvery Gelly Roll and White Gelly Roll pens for this from Sakura. A wee bit more controlled than splatter techniques (did someone say, she's 'not' a messy crafter?!) Truth is I am totally a messy crafter if you see my craft room you'd know! But I don't like having messy hands! LOL. So yep, I often opt for the more controlled applications. I did run a little Black Soot Distress Ink around the edge of the base layer, which I did hold with my bare hands though, how brave was I?!! Hehe.

I honestly cannot believe that we are about to launch the February Release at Whimsy Stamps! This year is already rushing by and before you know it, I'll be back with our Whimsy February Release. So watch this space! Hugs to you all until then xoxo
