Sweet Stampin' ~ Unusual Hair Colours

Hey crafty friends, I'm back again already, with another crafty adventure, but this time for our new challenge at Sweet Stampin'. Our theme this time is 'Unusual Hair Colours' so I had fun colouring up a really sweet mermaid from the Whimsy Stamps Some Odd Girl Digital Collection with some rather lovely teal coloured hair.

I loved colouring up this sweet mermaid and her friends. This mermaid comes with the sweet octopus character in the Whimsy Stamps digital image Friendly Mermaid. The cute little seahorse and narwhal come from another Some Odd Girl set, which I hope will be added to the Whimsy Stamps collection soon, but it is from my own stash. I masked the digital elements and added the sweet extra creatures in to create this super cute scene.

I masked the image and used the lovely Making Waves stencil from Whimsy Stamps to create the watery background with Distress Ink. I later added some swimming fish, with a little shoal from the Whimsy Stamps clear stamp set Let's Be Mermaids.

I used some lovely diecut elements from the Whimsy Stamps Build An Ocean die set. I wanted the image to very much remain the focus, so kept the colour palette quite muted, just in shades of blue for these diecut elements. The wee girlie this card was made for, has turned 6, so I added a number 6 in the mix to mark this. I added a vellum fishtail banner which I stamped the 'Make A Wish' sentiment on from the sweet Mermaid Dreams clear stamp set. I wanted a hidden way to add the fishtail banner to the card, so used a little diecut seahorse which I added the glue behind to try and obscure it. I ended up with a bubble as the glue came out and it splodged out a little fast, so my sneaky trick didn't work as well as I'd have liked and the seahorse has a little glue aura all around it, but I wasn't about to start again on this card!

I used a lovely background rubber stamp to add some interest to my plain blue paper base. This is a large 6x6 stamp from Whimsy Stamps called Curly Q's. I think it added just the right bit of detail without overshadowing the rest of the design. I used Versamark ink to create a tone on tone effect. I didn't add embossing powder, but dried it with a heat tool, so it was just the subtle hint of detail. The lovely die I used to create the shape for the central scene is from the Wavy Nested Frames die set. This die shape is super cute used in this way, as an underwater cave opening or peek through to a sweet scene like this.

You may have noted that I'm a bit of a 'Whimsy' girl and as this design has so many Whimsy elements in it, despite the fact it was made as DT for the Sweet Stampin' challenge, I will share this on the Whimsy FB page with my Whimsy watermark as shown below.

Thanks for popping in to visit today. I hope you enjoyed seeing my fun underwater creation. I loved making this and it was especially sweet to have a little person in mind to give it to, when I was creating this. I hope you'll come and share your 'Unusual Hair Colour' creations with us at Sweet Stampin', we can't wait to see what you're inspired to do! Do check out the super gorgeousness over on the blog too, my talented teamies have knocked it outta the park again.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. I'll be back very soon with another crafty adventure, until then stay safe and stay sane by keeping on crafting! Hugs, Wends xoxo
