Whimsy Stamps ~ Love, Love, Love

Hey crafty friends, it's Valentine's Day already here in New Zealand, so I'm sharing my post a little before it's Valentine's elsewhere. But I just can't wait and also, need to get back to packing, hehe. I made these fun Valentine's cards with my small boy, who absolutely LOVES puzzles. So this was such a fun and joyful thing to do together. He really enjoyed piecing all the little hearts in place and got totally immersed in it! I made the process a little easier by lining the entire front of the card base with strong double sided adhesive tape, so that when the diecut was laid over with the hearts missing, there were little sticky windows to easily add the coloured hearts into. Zac thought this was genius, hehe.

We were going loosely for a rainbow theme, certainly an explosion of colour! Zac's card is the one with the orange Love die and mine is the one with the purple and green. Honestly, you don't need much more than this lovely 'Love Word Die' to say all that needs to be said on Valentine's right?!

I wanted to create a real explosion of colour, a joyful celebration of all that makes us happy about love and as I have rainbow family, it felt nice to create a rainbow of colour. I had diecut extra colour options when I was making my cards I shared at the end of January, you can see them here if you missed that post. The colourful 'waste' from those diecuts was perfect for these two cards.

The placing of the hearts was quite mesmerising and I must admit quite calming and therapeutic. Zac and I both really enjoyed doing this! I love how both cards turned out! I added a vellum and white cardstock  heart to the front of each card, to break up the colour a bit, so the diecut love word would have a slightly less busy background. I cut the hearts from the Primitive Shaker Shapes die set. But I first created a bit of texture and interest on the cardstock by running the texture plait of the quilted rainbow inlaid die over the cardstock. I did this first to create the texture and then cut the heart shape second, so the definition would be right on the heart edges. I thought it was fun to have the rainbow shape on these diecuts, carrying through the theme.

I tried two different styles for adding the diecut words. I was trying with the Zac's card to emulate poster's I've seen where the word then had gradients of colour underneath as if the word is moving out from a rainbow. Don't think I nailed it, but was fun trying. For the purple and green diecuts I kept them a little closer going for more of a coloured shadow effect. They didn't look quite right just the two colours, so I spaced them with a white layer between and I like how this looks.

In case you missed my last post, we are running a challenge on the Whimsy Stamps Facebook Group at the moment, which will run until the end of February. The Treasures Team are showcasing some of these lovely sets below during January and February, so our challenge is to share these creations with you. Your challenge is to show us any creation using a Whimsy Stamps image, however if you use the stamp sets below, you'll be entered into the prize draw twice! There's a $25 Whimsy Stamps Gift Card up for grabs. You can enter with any Whimsy creation, but we'd especially love to see creations made with 'these' sets.

I really need to do some more packing now, so I wish you a super happy, cool and groovy day! Until next time, (which won't be long as I've another Valentine make for you! LOL.) Hugs and happy crafting xoxo

If you made it all the way to the end of this post, thank you! I appreciate you!! I thought I'd share a few pics of my boy enjoying the creating of this fun project with his mama. We really did have fun!
