Whimsy Stamps ~ Arachnaphobia
Hey there lovely crafty pals, I'm back today with a fun make for Whimsy Stamps featuring one of my favourite die sets from their Halloween releases last year! This spider set is so realistic, it's the creepiest and totally cool to boot! I had fun making a kinetic card where the spider moves across the card, suspended on a thin clear strand, as if from its own silk. I made a little 'reel' which you can see on my Instagram feed, so be sure to stop in there to see him in action! If I manage to figure out how, I'll try to share it at the end of the post.
This card was actually the first card I made this year for Halloween. I wanted to use these amazing spiders ever since last Halloween, so couldn't wait to get them diecut. I chose the spider shape that worked best to depict a spider suspended from their silk, diecut the spider twice, removing the legs from the second one, and then gluing that one behind the first, with a strand of clear sewing thread taped between the two layers. I then glued the other end of the thread into the main frame of the card, so the spider could swing wide and freely. A nice surprise for the unsuspecting recipient!
I added a little bling to this spider, with Black Stickles, which really shines and catches the light when it hits it right, but also adds fun texture and dimension even when the light doesn't. The fabulous background web is from a Whimsy Stamps Embossing Folder called Broken Web. I watercoloured the background making a red wash with a Karin Marker. I then embossed the web pattern over it and finally lightly dragged a white ink pad across the raised web to make it stand out more. I love how that looks.
Another die that I absolutely love from last year's Halloween releases at Whimsy, is this fabulous 'Spooky' die. How cool is this with it's web and curly cursive and the little spider! I diecut this and the frame from the same shimmery black cardstock. I also cut a top folding A2 card base from this same cardstock and all the elements were mounted on this. I left the white trim from my watercoloured panel exposed as I quite liked the way all the layers worked together and I felt it added another frame for contrast. I had fun creating this card and honestly the kinetic element is compelling. It's very hard not to swing that spider around when you're holding the card, so fun!
