Whimsy Stamps ~ When Autumn Leaves Start To Fall...

Hey friends, I'm here today with an Autumnal make, that just brings such joy to my heart! I love Autumn, a little bit of Autumn lives in me all year 'round. It's my favourite season, followed closely by Spring. I love the temperate months, I love the dramatic changes in nature, but the changes in Autumn speak to my heart most of all, the turning of the leaves, the crisp Autumn air, the chill in the night air, which means we get to don our snuggly sweaters. The smell of cinnamon and chai spices, I love lattes laced with warm Autumnal spices, but only in Autumn! So I've had fun creating some cards which celebrate this season change. Now yes, I do know I live in New Zealand and it's actually Spring here, but it's Autumn for America, and of course Whimsy Stamps hailing from Florida are entering Autumn. It may not be quite the Autumn you'd see in Vermont, but it's Autumn nonetheless, so I create with that in mind.

I ink blended the edges of this card with Vintage Photo Distress Ink (not Oxide as I usually use for ink blending, but the normal Distress Ink), as I wanted it to stain the paper, not sit on top of the paper and to blend towards a lighter central section. It's subtle, but it's there and I really like the richness it adds to this card. All the leaves where embossed before the ink blending was done and I used several different embossing powders, a different one for each leaf shape.

I used Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder, for the large Maple leaf, which melts to a lovely bright gold colour. For the smaller Oak leaf I used a much older batch of Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder, which now melts to this darker gold shade. I recall it was a brighter gold back in the day, but I've had this powder for well over 30 years now, and it still melts, so I'll use it when I can and I thought this make was the perfect opportunity. The copper coloured Aspen leaves, were embossed with Cosmic Shimmer Detail Embossing Powder in Ancient Copper, finally the Linden leaves, I embossed in Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder. This powder has a resist built into it, so it leaves a more rustic textured finish, compared to the other powders, which melt smoothly. I think it was fun to get all those different tones and textures on the card through the embossing powders and love how this turned out.

My uncle has been really poorly after an accident on his farm, which resulted in some serious injury, so I wanted to send him some love and a message of support, and think this lovely Autumnal card will be just the right 'tone' for this. I chose an encouraging sentiment from the 'You Are' clear sentiment stamp set from Whimsy and I used the brighter Gold embossing powder to add the sentiment to the vellum fish tail strip. I adhered the vellum to the card front with one strip of ATG runner tape, then obscured this with a triple loop around of twine and a bow tied in front. A nice rustic simple finish I think.

Thanks for stopping in to visit today friends, I appreciate it so much. I will be back very soon with another crafty adventure, I hope you've enjoyed seeing this Autumnal make and if it's Autumn where you are, enjoy these lovely days. I wish you a wonderful week and look forward to stopping in to visit your blogs soon too. Hugs xoxo

I LOVE autumn too, the colours make me very happy and the smell of woodsmoke too. What a stunning card, such fab shaped leavves and colours. This will certainly lift your Uncle's spirits Wends, do hope he makes a speedy recovery. Farms are dangerous places. Martin severed the tendons in a finger on a combine harvester blade years ago. On reflection it would have been better if they's amputated, as it causes him no end of problems xx
