Whimsy Stamps ~ Boho Vibes Today

Hey crafty friends, I'm bringing you a set of cards today that I had the best, most arty fun creating! I was rather pleased to share these with the artists in my life who would appreciate them beyond the 'handmade card' aspect. I'm not usually that adventurous with art styles, but I adore this Bohemian range from Whimsy Stamps and channelled this Mid-Century Bohemian Art Style, with it's dusky Autumn hues, that I personally adore to create this fun set of four cards. I'm so inspired by the Bohemian Art Style, I've another set in progress!

My starting point with this design, was the art pieces I'd seen use soft 'boulder' like shapes in warm toned Autumnal hues as their centre piece. I'd also seen ghosting 'halo' lines around these boulder shapes, usually in black ink, mimicking their shape and I really love the look and idea of this. So the first thing I did was choose two sizes of circle from the Boho Circle Die Set from Whimsy. 

This fun die set has a nesting set of imperfect circles, with a fun and playful Bohemian feel to them. I took some 4 inch wide Mint Tape from Scrapbook.com and created a template to ink blend my circles through. I used this same template for all four creations, starting with the lighter ink tones of the burnt orange cards and finished with the deeper tones of the Mahogany cards. I used the new Distress Oxide Colour Lost Shadow as the lighter hue for both sets of cards and it played so nicely with both of the stronger Distress Oxide colours I used. 

To create the halo around each of the boulder shapes, I took the die I'd used to cut the template and freehand traced around the inside of the die. I placed them a little to the side of the shape to give this halo effect. I used a copper toned glitter pen from Kaisercraft to create these halos, on both colours of card. It toned well with both options. 

For the burnt orange toned cards I used Lost Shadow and Rusty Hinge Distress Oxide Inks and blended the darker shade at the base of each circle and the Lost Shadow I brought in from the top. The card on the left was the first I blended and I used a lighter hand for that one, I added more ink to the one on the right and I love the rich hues that card has.

This second set of cards, I used Lost Shadow and Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide Inks for the blending and again tried a lighter hand with the one on the right, and a heavier hand with the one of the left. Both lovely effects and I'm pleased with the blends on both cards. I love how the Lost Shadow adopted tones of the other colours bringing a soft and beautiful blend. I was worried it would look cold, but it adopted the warm tones of the other inks and I just love its chameleon effect! I was really pleased with this crafty experiment! For the card bases, I used a square base I had in my stash that toned perfectly with the Mahogany ink and was a perfect size for the largest of the Wonky Stitched Rectangle Dies I used to cut each panel. For the second set, I created square card bases from Bazzill Basics Cardstock from my stash in a toning burnt orange hue. I love the simple frame these gave the designs.  

For the stamping on each card, I used a range of fun Whimsy Stamps sets to create these quirky Bohemian inspired cards. I love how each of these turned out, but it's actually the simpler stamped cards from each set that I like best. The first I created was the one with the small 'thank you' sentiment in the bottom left corner and I just added a couple of stamps from the same Peekaboo Dots Clear Stamp Set to add the interest and design features. I finished each card design with a flat back black pearl that has a shiny 'oil slick' finish to it. I love the finish these gave each card and I added them quite differently on each card as the design inspired. It's quite easy to see which stamp sets I used for each card from the thumbnails below, so I won't go through them all or this will turn into quite the tome!
