Whimsy Stamps ~ First Halloween Release of the Season!

Hey crafty friends, I'm super excited to share my first creation using one of the sets from Whimsy Stamps First Halloween Release of the Season. Now if you have followed me a while, you'll know I love creating for Halloween and in recent years, I've created a few décor pieces. In New Zealand, we don't have much cause to send Halloween cards, it's not a traditionally celebrated day here, though has become more so in recent years. So I have great fun preparing treat bags for little Trick or Treaters and making my own Halloween décor so they know we are a Trick or Treat friendly house. So here is one of my décor creations with this brand new release.

I have mixed old and new stash from Whimsy to create this fun Halloween plaque. I bought a plain wooden plaque from my local craft store, it was a really good deal, so I was excited to try making a wooden Halloween plaque with it. When I got the plaque, I wasn't sure which stamp set I'd use to embellish it, until this adorable set turned up in our latest release! Then I absolutely knew which stamps I wanted to use. How adorable is that kitty in the witches hat?! I thought these two images paired really well from this set, to decorate my plaque. I knew I wanted to use this fabulous Spooky Word Die from Whimsy as the central feature. This die is just so fabulous, I've used it several times already in different makes, which you can see here, here, here and here. It really is one of my favourite Halloween dies!

But before I could get to the process of embellishing this plaque, I needed to paint the wood. I opted to stain it actually with some Rusty Hinge Distress Stain and then I splattered it generously with a mix of Mica Sprays. I used Burning Ember and Decayed Mica Stains to add a little shine and sparkle to the plaque background.

After the Mica had a chance to dry, I then added the fabulous 'Spooky' Word die. I cut this from Spellbinders Black Glitter Foam, which gave it some nice dimension. I wanted to add some extra details to the bat and Spider, for a little extra interest, so added two tiny black pearls to the bat for eyes and a large and medium sized pearl to the spider to make his body more 3D. These tiny touches are really nice up close.

The close up detail on the spider shows the lovely 'oil slick' finish on these darker pearls. I pulled these out of a lovely mix from This Call For Confetti, called Gala Diamonds and Pearls. It's a really opulent beautiful set of embellishments. It's not currently available at Whimsy, but a lot of the This Calls For Confetti sets are, so look out for them.

The sweet stamp set I've used to finish this plaque is from the brand new Halloween Release at Whimsy today! It's called Cat-O-Lantern and is by one of my favourite Whimsy artists, Crissy Armstrong. I adore her sweet images and man oh man, does she deliver this Halloween! There's some super cuties! Just my kind of Halloween fun! I coloured the images with Copic Markers and then fussy cut them close, no white border, then popped them up on foam for an added bit of interest and dimension.

Finally here's my wall plaque in situ, ready to decorate for and celebrate Halloween. I really love how this plaque came out, I know I'll be pulling this one out year after year and I couldn't be happier with the sweet images, they really are the perfect finish for this fun Halloween plaque. I'd love to know what you think of this crafty adventure!

The rest of our amazing Halloweeners team will be sharing their creative adventures over in our Whimsy Stamps Facebook Group and we're gearing up for our next hop which will be in mid-September, so there's loads of inspiration for Halloween to be had at Whimsy! I hope you've enjoyed seeing my first make with the New Release, the first Halloween release for 2023 and there will be more, I promise! Until then, have a wonderful day and happy creating! Hugs, Wends xoxo
