Whimsy Stamps ~ Ghostly Mist Potion Bottle
Hey crafty friends, I'm so excited to have got a few items from the brand new release at Whimsy Stamps to play with and couldn't wait to share this card! Whimsy has a super fun release out today with so many fun Halloween elements. I've had such fun creating this Apothecary themed card with some really cool glow in the dark elements. I love this new Potion Bottle Die and the Washi Tape labels are so fun!
I've used some really lovely deep purple cardstock from Cardstock Warehouse for the base of this design. It's their Amethyst cardstock from their colorplan range. It's a lovely heavy weight cardstock and was perfect to diecut the letters from too for the sentiment. I adore the hue of this paper, green is my favourite colour, but this shade of purple is my favourite of that colourway! Grape, Aubergine, dark Amethyst purples have long been a favourite of mine too. So it's a treat to work with this gorgeous paper.
The divine new Gothic Glow paper pack from Whimsy Stamps has such cool hues in it and this worked perfectly with lovely Amethyst cardstock from Cardstock Warehouse. I also used their fabulous vellum to diecut one of the Potion Bottles. It's a heavy enough weight to hold the shape really well and yet sheer enough to still see through the diecut underneath that I layered to be the potion inside. I created the panel for this bottle with the ink smooshing technique. I used Rustic Wilderness, Mowed Lawn, Bundled Sage and Shabby Shutters for the ink smooshing and then I spritzed the panel with two Mica Spray Stains for some shimmer and shine. This doesn't show super well through the vellum but you can see the shine on the drippy bit on the bottle neck. I love that the colours in the label on this bottle work so well with the colours in the Gothic Glow paper.
The corks were cut from a heavy kraft cardstock, which had a really cool texture to it. I coloured the little pits in the corks with Copic Markers, to darken them a little, but stuck them back in place, rather than remove them and back the cork with a second layer. I wanted the cork to look pitted, but to keep the diecut circles in situ. How fun is this Washi Label on this bottle?! Those ghosts are so adorable.
I chose to keep the Gothic Glow paper 6x6 size, just roughing up the edges and layering it over a larger square card base. I have lots of large square card bases from my London days and I've been loving keeping Whimsy's gorgeous 6x6 papers full size to get the full impact of these stunning papers. So I did the same for this card and cut the lovely Amethyst cardstock as a large matt for the patterned paper and finally added it to a 7x7 white card base. I used a scoreboard to score the corners of the Amethyst cardstock so it was scored along the corners in a diagonal a bit like a frame would be joined. It's a subtle touch, but I love what it adds to the piece.
I've layered the Amethyst Cardstock letters over some Glow In The Dark Foil, to give a fun lil' glowy surprise when the lights go out! I also used this Glow In The Dark Foil to back the second Potion Bottle for a fun glowing effect. I used the foil for the little bubbly spill too. I used a fun acetate for the top layer of this bottle which is from a Crafter's Companion Halloween Acetate Pack. It has cute little ghosts over it and up close it's such a fun little detail of this Potion Bottle.
Lights out and the full effect of this awesome Glow In The Dark Foil hits overdrive! You can even see the glow through the washi tape which is such a fun effect! Doesn't this look cool?! I have a short video which shows some of the creating of this card. I did do some of the creation off camera but I've a fun step through the later elements and I hope you'll enjoy seeing this part of the process.
Thanks for visiting and for watching the video too if you do. I'm still new to this, so it's nice to know if folks are enjoying them. I greatly appreciate if you leave a thumbs up or comment to let me know you've watched.
Whimsy's final Halloween themed release for 2025 is now live and full of such fantastic elements! I don't usually get new release products so early, but the boss knowing how much I love our Halloween season sourced me some early, because they've got to make it all the way to New Zealand, so it's a bit of an undertaking! So grateful to her for that and I've had the best time creating with these. I'll be sharing more during October to be sure, but this is the last release for this year that will be Halloween themed. I just adore the fun take Whimsy has had on Halloween this year! I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. In the meantime, I wish you a magical and creative week! Hugs, Wends xoxo
