Whimsy August New Release ~ Day 1 ~ Leo the Lionheart

A warm hello to you all on this first day of August! Can you quite believe that?! This year is rushing by too quickly for me. I don't want my babes childhoods flying by so fast! I still remember when they were just babies! Speaking of which, my creation today, is to celebrate the first birthday of a lovely friends babe. That year has for sure whizzed by! He is now a big one year old and finding his feet!

So when I saw this delish lion that the awesomely talented Crissy Armstrong was releasing as a digital design for Whimsy Stamps this August, I just knew what I wanted to use to create Leo's first birthday card. How gorgeous is this character?! Don't you just want to give him a big hug?!! I've used my copics to colour this image in varying shades of yellow and gold. His crown I coloured with Gold Metallic Marker from Letraset. The diamonds I created with a bit of blue copic in the background and then layered over Nuvo Glitter Drops in White Blizzard.

I've used two really fab digital papers by Denise Lynn to create this card. I just LOVE this combo with this image. I think they were 'made for each other'. The lil' striped fishtail tab is an offcut from the ice-cream penguin card I made recently, so was still floating around in my recent off-cuts pile. I saw it with the main paper and had an 'aha' moment. So that's how that wound up on this card. I've distressed the edges for a fun finish.

I've kept the design very simple, but really wanted to add little Leo's name on the card and his age, so I diecut the letters and stuck those top and bottom on the right hand side. I also layered up the image with a couple of mats to add interest to the design. I wanted to use a little touch of gold glitter paper that was also on my desk and had already decided on this 'on the edge' design, so I worked it into the trimmed side there. It's just a little touch, but I think it's regal and fun.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my first new release creation for Whimsy Stamps August Digital Release. I'll be back with another New Release creation on Friday, so come on back to see that. In the meantime, do head over to the Whimsy Facebook page where the rest of my awesomely talented Whimsy Digital Divas teamies will be sharing their creations. We've got some gorgeousness in store for you these next few days! You can click straight through to the store on thumbnails below for all the Whimsy Stamps products I've used in this creation. So see you again soon. Hugs xoxo
