Whimsy Stamps ~ Little Boy Collections

Hey friends, I'm back today with a fun creation I made for my little boy, to house his Munchkin cards. We're big table top games folk and our littlest has a real love for table top games, most especially Munchkin and has a good selection of cards now from several birthday and Christmas gifts. So of course, he needed somewhere to keep these cards and mama had a good idea to repurpose an old shoe box. 

I pulled out some Distress Oxide Inks in Rusty Hinge, Wild Honey and Fossilized Amber and started blending a background going from light in the centre to dark around the outside. I had a vague plan for how the wording would be added, so tried to keep the lighter area for where they would be stamped. I splattered the ink blended backgrounds with water before adding the stamping for a bit of texture and interest. Drying them well before adding the stamping. I used a slimline acrylic block from Scrapbook.com to do the stamping, with Versafine ink, which gave a good crisp impression. The slimline block was brilliant for this as it has grid marks, which made lining up the letters really easy. 

The box lid is a hinged design, attached at the back and closing over the front with a flap almost as large as the box top, so I saw this as an opportunity to add some more stamping. I chose to stamp adventure awaits..., which is very apt for this game as it is full of mischief, fun and adventure.

Once I'd done those two panels, I knew I'd have to add some detailing to the sides too. So I cut a panel that fit the triangle shape of the box lid sides and ink blended those too. I didn't want to add paper to the box sides below the lid however, as this could obstruct the smooth opening and closing, so I pulled out some of my Christmas Tim Holtz Washi Tape and found the lovely black and white gingham tape, carefully lined up the pattern for each strip and covered the sides of the box this way. I finished the inside with another strip this ran across the ends of the tape, to give a nice tidy finish.

The fun stamp set from Whimsy that I used for this cute project for my littlest one, was so perfect with it's quirky font changes and it's on super special right now, so if you think it's something you might like to have for those projects that call for something a little bit different and fun, then now is for sure the right time to grab this fun alphabet stamp set! My mission and brief from my little one who got on board with this idea with great enthusiasm, was that the storage had to have separated areas for the cards, so he could store them in 'types'. So this involved a little more math and measuring than I would normally do in my creating, but came out really well and I'm pleased I thought about details like anchoring the sides and bases of the divisions, so the cards didn't shift between the layers. All in all, it was a successful and happily received crafty project.

Today is our Waitangi Day here in New Zealand, which is kinda like our equivalent of Thanksgiving. We arrived home 10 years ago the night before Waitangi, so will always remind us of our return 'home' after our 13 years living in London, UK. We miss it still, but gosh it is good to be back and for all the slack recently that our lovely retired Prime Minister has got, we would not have wished to be anywhere else these past few years or under any other leadership, my gratitude to her for her graceful governing and hopes we don't go backwards now! It does feel like the end of a special era of heart centred governing. There will always of course be criticism of any governance, it's how we hold those in power accountable, but I really do think she was pretty special and she will be greatly missed.
