Whimsy Stamps ~ Halloween Hop Spooktacular

Hey crafty pals, I hope you're hopping along with us today. I'm super excited to be kicking off another fun term of Halloween creating with the Halloweeners today and man oh man do I feel out-classed! These teamies are crafty talents extraordinaire! But what I lack in skill, I make up for in passion! So it's going to be a super fun term!

We have a New Release at Whimsy Stamps today and these divine Quick Card Fronts are part of this Release. They are quite frankly enchanting! I love them all and if you saw the post I put up last night, you'll know I've made up a card with one of the Warlocks from the other set. I just couldn't help it, they are fabulous! I have more ideas brewing now too for both sets!

I did nothing to embellish the image panel on this card, I felt it was so beautiful and magical just as it is, I left it completely plain. But I've ideas for some of the other ones involving the brand new Rub Ons set that Whimsy released today. Oh my goodness, how fun is that? I feel like a kid again with my lolly stick adding the beautiful details of those Rub Ons. So fun!! I'll share more with those in later makes. You can check out yesterdays make for the tiny spider from the Rub Ons set. It just looks like it's part of the scene, so cool!

I saw this image and knew I wanted to make a pumpkin shaped card straight away! I figured that pumpkins have a rounded shape that could be mimicked with a few oval shapes. So I pulled out my Basic Stitched Ovals Die Set and using the largest oval in the set, which is about 4.5 inches high, cut three from heavy weight orange shimmery cardstock which I've had in my stash a very long time. It's really pretty and has a lovely shimmer up close. It's also a good heavy weight. I'd say it's easily 260gsm, but still light enough to diecut easily. Once my 3 ovals were diecut, I played around with the angles to get the look I wanted. I drew them in closer at the top and let them splay out a little towards the base, trying to get them even on both sides. I glued the overlapped sections together and held them in place to dry.

Once the orange ovals were dry, I folded a white heavyweight cardstock in half and then traced around the pumpkin shape with a pencil, ensuring that the top of the pumpkin sat just over the folded edge of the cardstock. I then handcut with my scissors just inside the pencil line, to give a slightly smaller than the Pumpkin Diecuts Shape, to create the cardbase I would then mount the front panel onto. I wanted to give the traditional look of the pumpkin top to complete the card and was delighted when I pulled out my Build-a-Pumpkin Patch Die Set to find the top of the largest pumpkin actually fit this design so perfectly! I diecut the largest pumpkin from the set in black cardstock. I trimmed the pumpkin top from it and then sprayed the pumpkin top with Distress Mica Spray Stain in Wicked Elixir. I glued this once dry to the central orange oval. I did this before gluing down the image panel. I diecut the image with the same die set, but wanted it a little smaller, so the frame of the orange oval beneath, showed at the sides. So I just grabbed my scissors and distressed the image panel until I was happy it had the look I wanted. I then glued this in place over the base of the pumpkin top, so it had a nicer finish.

My final touch to this design was adding the Enchanted Word Die. I diecut this three times from black cardstock, gluing the layers together, to give the diecut strength, as it would be glued across the base of the middle oval, but the sides are floating in the air! So I wanted to ensure it was a little more robust because of this. I used a Gelly Roll Sparkle pen to add some highlights on the word die. I took the image above with the card tipped in the light to try and capture this. It blows the image out a little bit, but you can just see some of the sparkle.

This card is part of an Instagram Hop that is running today. You can check that out by clicking through on the banner above. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
