Whimsy Stamps ~ Let the Halloween Shenanigans Begin!

Hey crafty friends, we are kicking off the Halloween fun today at Whimsy Stamps with a New Release, dedicated to all things Halloween and fabulous! There are two super cute Halloween themed Quick Card Fronts sets and a really cool frame die set. As usual, most of it is on my 'wishlist', though I managed to get my hands on the Quick Card Fronts early, which is a real treat for me, as I don't usually get New Releases until later. So I'm super excited! They're also two completely adorable sets which I soooo want to make a gazillion creations with! But I'm starting off with a fun fold creation today. I've made a little PDF tutorial if anyone is interested in making one too. Full disclosure, I first saw this design by Sam Calcott, who to me, is the absolute 'guru' of fun fold cards! She has a really fabulous YouTube channel where you can find all sorts of fabulous designs. You can click through 'here' for her original version of this card. But bear in mind, my measurements are different to Sam's, as I've adapted this to work with US Letter Size Cardstock.

To decorate my design, I used Whimsy’s Notched Squares Die Set to cut the Warlock image for the top diamond shaped area. I took the offcut corners from the Quick Card Front and just eyeballing them, cut the triangles to decorate the inner angles of the fun fold design. They measure just shy of 2 ¼ inches from the top corner of the triangle down each side and I just trimmed diagonally across from those two points to complete the triangle. These were glued in place with liquid glue, so it was easy to shift and move them to get the position just right and not too close to the folds, so the card action wasn't obstructed.

I used Distress Mica Spray Stains in Iron Gate and Frozen Fog to decorate the panel for the base of the card. I wanted to mimic the design of the cool grungy edges of the Quick Card Fronts. I used a large die from the Notched Squares Die Set to cut the panel for the base. I needed it a little wider, so did a partial diecutting technique, to cut the first edge, then cut it just shy of 5 inches for the second edge. I didn’t need the full depth of the diecut, so trimmed it to fit the 3.5 inch depth with my trimmer and glued it in place. I did this before gluing down the grey triangle visible above to the base.

The final touch to this design was to add the tiny spider to the dangle from the Warlock's hat. This is a little 'rub on' from Whimsy's brand new set perfectly timed for Halloween. I am so excited about these. I remember having them when we were kids. Who knew crafty things could come back full circle the way they have been lately. This set is so fun and although I've only used a tiny embellishment on this design, you can be sure I'll be adding these cute elements on lots of designs very soon! I used some spiderweb like mesh from my fabric scraps behind the image panel to add a little texture and interest to this design and the sentiment which is part of the Quick Card Fronts Set, was cut with part of the tombstone steps from Whimsy's Slimline Decrepit Grave Die Set, because it was quirky and bit more fun than a straight edge sentiment strip.

I will be sharing a PDF sheet with the full explanation of the Fun Fold Assembly and for the measurements, over in the Whimsy Stamps Facebook Group, so check there for that. When the card is folded flat, the design measures 5 inches across and 6 inches high. So a square envelope for a 6x6 inch card is perfect for this design or you can custom make one to fit a 5 x 6 card. The design folds flat for posting and pops up when lifted out of the envelope.

Thank you friends for visiting today. It goes without saying I'm in my 'happy place' right now as I'm crafting for Halloween. If you've been following me a while you'll know my stories and my love for Halloween crafting. I am a fraidy cat with anything too spooky, I love the 'too cute to spook' creations, the adorable stuff. Little ones in cute costumes just melt me! I adore being the 'candy giver' on Halloween and handing out little Halloween treats, many of them decorated and handmade. So much of my creating is done with this in mind. Either decorations for the house or little treats and gifts to give the kids. I don't tend to send a lot of Halloween cards, but I've been getting into that more and more the last couple of years as I've learnt I have a few friends who love it as much as I do! Come back soon for my HOP card, which will be going live soon, for me, only '1 more sleep' to go. Kick off time is 7am for me here in New Zealand, but in the US, it's 3pm EDT. So excited to see what all my other teamies have prepared for the hop. It's always SO much fun! So see you again really soon. Hugs, Wends xoxo

(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
