Whimsy Wednesday ~ Hanging Out for Christmas

A warm hello to you all today my lovely blogland pals. I'm back with another Whimsy Wednesday post. Today, I have a fun Christmas creation using the super cute Crissy Armstrong image Penguin Light Me Up. I think this image is so sweet and fun and he was a joy to colour with my copic pens.  I used a range of cool greys from C10 down to C00 and his feet and beak were coloured with YR 24, YR 23, Y21 and Y11. He pops out from the tree at the base as if he's swinging thanks to some thick foam pads.

Our Tracy has made the most fabulous Christmas Tree paper, that I just had to make a Teepee card with it! You can find this wonderful digital paper called Winter Pines over in the Whimsy Store. This paper set has some absolutely gorgeous digital papers in it, just perfect for those Christmas creations.

I used a lovely sentiment from the Oh Christmas Tree set and framed it with a really pretty holly leaf ribbon from The Ribbon Girl. Then I topped this tree card with one of Crissy's stars from the Christmas Accessories digital images set. This set is brilliant, as you can resize the images to suit so many purposes, as I did with the wee Angel for my last Whimsy creation. I added Glossy Accents to the star for a bit of shine and dimension and also to the sweet Christmas tree lights. The star was coloured with the same copic colours that I did the penguins feet and beak with.

It's so easy to make a teepee card. The pics below show the different aspects of the card. In the bottom image you can see the three pieces of square paper opened out flat. If you create a smaller teepee card, you can send it in the post folded in half along that pointed crease. The first image shows it folded this way. The teepee card I made is huge though, so I won't post it. I used three 8x8 inch paper pieces to create the teepee card to use as a mantel piece Christmas decoration. The bottom pic below is an easy way to see how they come together.

To create a teepee card score all three squares from corner to opposite corner, paying attention to how your paper pattern will fold when you do this. One piece is laid down diagonally to create the first pointed base of the teepee and then the other two pieces are added with the flaps lifting outwards. You can add the two pieces on top, but I prefer it if the left hand square page is laid under the base diagonal. This means, when all the pages come together, they all fold over each other in the same way. The top right pic shows the left hand square folded in, showing two of the points of the base. I add magnets to the last flap, so it will hold well when standing, but also pop open easily for laying flat for storage or posting. Bring that last flap up on the right to complete the three pointed base of the teepee. It really is easy and so effective. I love it for Christmas makes! I hope you'll give it a go.
