Whimsy ~ Christmas Light

Hey there lovely friends. The year is racing to a close and I'm still catching up my Christmas posts, the real and the virtual! Too much going on this year. If you get a card from me, count yourself lucky! Hehe.

I made this lovely Christmas Lantern to celebrate the Christmas season, not to give to anyone particularly, just to use as a decoration over the Christmas season. I coloured the image with my Copic Markers on acetate. I used strong colours this time, so that the finish would be a bit richer than the last ones I did, as darker deeper colours are needed to show up richly on the acetate. I coloured the ground brown but I've seen it done in icy blues to depict snow. Either is lovely I think.

I've used a tealight above to show it in use, but I'd recommend using a battery operated one for safer use. I didn't let it burn for long as I was worried the heat would damage the box and the acetate. But it did look so pretty with the tealight in it.

I designed the lantern with an acetate sheet mounted into a frame of cardboard. I used a box design to hold the tealight. I added a white on white diecut scene in the back for a little interest, but I think it would have been fine with a plain back too.

The angle above shows the light flooding the box and shows up the variation in the colours so nicely. I need to added some deeper greens to my Copic stash, as I'd loved those to be a little richer, but had to work with what I had. A fun experiment I think, using the Copics on acetate and I love how this lamp came out.

I hope you're having a wonderful break between Christmas and New Year and look forward to catching up with all my crafty pals in 2019. I'll be back again before New Year, to share our last challenge of the year for Sweet Stampin', so check back in if you're around over the break. Hugs to you all xoxo
