Whimsy ~ Scribdoodle Shaker Card

Hello, hello crafty friends, I have a cute card I actually made to share during March, but got a little side-tracked with my birthday that last week. Thanks for the sweet birthday messages many of you sent, I had a lovely day and a few gorgeous crafty gifts from my hubby too! One of which, I got early, was to do the recent OCC classes which this time were focusing on Stencils. Every class I've done with them, I've found so useful and it has really expanded the way I think about using my stencils and other stash too. Well worthwhile and well priced, which is always nice. So I'll be back to share some of those crafty adventures soon, but today, I'm sharing a card I made with some fun quirky paper from Whimsy's Scribdoodle Critters paper pack. I paired it with the Large Round Bauble Bubble from This Calls For Confetti to create a fun shaker element for the card.

I started my card design by creating a large round card base with a XXL die I've had in my stash a long while. The company no longer trades, but it was from Go Create and is their large scalloped circle die. These XXL dies make great shaped card bases and I really wanted to mimic the Whimsy die I was using to frame the shaker window. I cut the Scribdoodle Critters Paper with the largest of my Whimsy Stitched Circle Dies and then used a fun doodle stamp from the FaDoodles Too Clear Stamp Set to create a fun frame around the main circle. I shaped the straight stamp into a soft semi circle, so it would mould as closely as possible to the circle when stamping.

I used a gorgeous stamp set from Whimsy to create the wild flowers and bird silhouette called Sympathy Silhouette Clear Stamps. I stamped the lovely image, taking care to note which edges needed masking, so there was no stamping outside the shaker window circle. I stamped the image in Villainous Potion Distress Oxide for a nice rich silhouette. I didn't want to go for a black silhouette, so the dark Villainous Potion was perfect. I added a touch of glitter pen to the bird wing to make it stand out a little, it's subtle, but up close it's a nice extra touch.

I diecut the largest scalloped frame, to fit around the Shaker Bauble Bubble using the Whimsy Stamps Scallop Circle Frames Die Set. The largest of these frames is a perfect fit to frame the Large Bauble Bubble from This Calls For Confetti. It's a nice deep shaker bubble, so there's plenty of room for bling. I took the opportunity to use some bigger shaker pieces I've had in my stash for a while. I added some large quirky flower sequins from UK company Think Pink Confetti. I've had a tube of mixed confetti from them dating back to my London days, so was well time to use it! I added some medium and tiny hearts also that have been in my stash a long time and finished the mix with some Diamond Sparkle Gems from This Calls for Confetti to add shine and lustre.

Last touch once all the shaker layers were adhered and dry, was to add the 'Happy Birthday' sentiment which came from the lovely 'Enjoy The Little Things' stamp set from Whimsy. I really like this set, it has beautiful imagery and lovely sentiments. I shaped the straight sentiment carefully on the edge of an acrylic block so it followed the curve of the shaker and stamped it in Villainous Potion Distress Oxide Ink. There is a fun bohemian feel to this sweet creation and I am really pleased with how it came together.

Today is my lovely crafty pal Susan's Birthday, so sending hugs and big birthday wishes her way! Sending you all wishes for happy crafty days and I'll be back very soon with another crafty adventure.
