Whimsy Stamps ~ Easter Wishes

Hey friends, I've left it very late to craft for Easter this year, it kinda snuck up on me, am I the only one?! But I've managed to make an Easter card for my mummy this afternoon, which I know she'll really love. I did a little thinking outside the box, as I wanted to portray the resurrection and came up with a few elements that would work well to do this.

I took a piece of textured grey cardstock from my Bazzill stash and diecut it first with the Revealers 1 Die Set, which had a fabulous wavy stencil I could use to create a stony hillside for the top of the cave. I didn't want the frilly end, so used another part of the die to cut a smoother curve behind the stone which I intended to have the sun peeking out from. I then took one of the middle sizes of my Boho Circles Die Set and used it to cut the big stone, which I would then roll away to the side and pop out on foam for a bit of dimension to depict the scene of the empty tomb. 

At this point, I knew I had to be quite specific about where I lay down my ink blended colours. I wanted to create a warm sunrise glow in the sky, so I sketched out on the paper, roughly where the borders of the cave and top of the stone hill would be, so I knew where to lay the colours. I laid down the sunrise sky first, working from the area closest to the hill top and using Squeezed Lemonade to add that first layer of colour. I then moved to Fossilized Amber and onto Rusty Hinge for the very top to give that warm sunrise glow. Next, I took my 'It's Sunny' Stencil from Whimsy and using those same colours, built up the colour through the stencil, finishing with the Rusty Hinge. The scene looks like a hot mess above, with all the inked areas showing, but once the stone hill is in place, it all comes together very nicely.

I inked the bottom and side edges of the hill and the stone with a little bit of Black Soot Distress Oxide ink to add some dimension and shading. I used the left over ink on the brush after creating the dark cavern where the stone was rolled away. I actually used a little bit of Lost Shadow Distress Oxide across the top of the stone hill, as the sun would be shining on that, so the stone would be lighter. Subtle, but it's there. I added the sentiment from a beautiful stamp set from Whimsy called Savior Clear Stamps. I stamped it in Black Soot Distress Oxide, because I find if my oxide blending is not quite dry enough, my usual 'go to' Versamark Onyx Black ink doesn't want to sit on the paper. It does dry back with a more muted oxidised finish, but I don't mind that on this card. I could have added clear embossing powder over it, but you have to be quite quick for it to take as the oxide inks dry quicker than Versafine and Versamark Inks. As I didn't have what I needed to hand, I've left it plain, but if you're at all worried about your ink getting wet and smearing, you could absolutely do this step.

I had such fun whipping up this last minute Easter card today. We're gathering this weekend to do an Easter hunt with the wider family and I know it will absolutely make my mum's day to be given this card.
