Whimsy Stamps ~ Tag You're It

Hey crafty pals, I'm popping in today with a fun Halloween tag I created to accompany a Halloween gift. It's quite large, so I was able to use the Spooky Large Word Die from Whimsy to decorate it. I absolutely love this word die, it's one of my favourite Halloween themed dies from Whimsy. I've used it a number of times. You can see those makes, here, here, here and here. I've given it a different look pretty much every time I've used it and love how many ways there are to interpret this fun die.

I used a lovely plaid washi tape for the top and bottom of this design, with another spooky fun one in the middle with creepy eyes and then a plainer black and white trim to balance them out. I added a black reinforcer on the top of the design and white one on the reverse, as the cardstock on the flip side is white, so it's easy to add a message. It's also a convenient way to hide the washi tape tails, so they don't peel up over time. The washi tape tails are taped securely down and sandwiched between the black front tag and white tag on the reverse. The white side gives an easy spot for adding a message and finishes that side so nicely.

I added some organza ribbon and some black fine twine tied in a bow to complete the top of the tag. I then went back and added one extra final touch of the little black bat, as I felt it needed just a little extra interest there. I added extra touches to the spider on the main diecut too. I had some Simon Says Stamp Dew Drop Embellishments in my stash from their Rainbow Splash line, that I thought would be fun to use on this tag. I opted for the iridescent dew drops on the spider, as I felt it would reflect the colours beneath well and then chose the milky dew drops to finish that panel. I just added three. Had there been a tinier size, I'd have given the bat eyes, but the small drops were too large for that, so our batty remained plain.

I had spritzed the 'Spooky' diecut with Distress Spritz in Spiced Marmalade to add a little shimmer and interest, but it was a bit blotchy in places and when I added it over the black tag, it looked really stark, so I splashed some water on my hand and just using my fingers moved the mica around to try and smooth it. It of course went everywhere and filled in the black spaces, but I love that happy accident, because I think it softened the background and brought the two elements together better. So the risk was worth taking!

I will be back with another crafty adventure soon, but in the meantime, thank you for popping in to visit today and even more so if you've let me know you were here! I love to be able to return the favour. Our blogs are being visited less and less these days and I worry my favourite way of sharing my crafty adventures may soon be obsolete! It's not helping that Blogger keep taking down just about every post as I publish it. That's really doing my head in, but they seem to pop back up again soon after, so I'm just trying to stay Zen about it all. But between the bouncing back up to previous comments in Facebook and Bloggers take downs, I'm feeling a little frustrated with sharing my makes lately. Instagram has become more and more attractive. But it's not my favourite way to share, just a convenient way. I hope you're having happier experiences and wish you a wonderful remainder of your week.

We would love it so much if you joined our World Cardmaking Day Celebration and this cutie sitting on her moon is the sweet image being given away by Whimsy for this event. It runs until October 31st. So come snag your copy from the Whimsy Stamps Facebook Group, we'd love to see what you're inspired to do with her! I will be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Hugs, Wends xoxo

(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
