Southern Girls ~ Flora & Fauna

Hey there crafty friends, it's time for a new 'Team Lou' challenge at Southern Girls and this week, we have two fabulous sponsors and a wonderful theme for you to work with. I think Flora & Fauna is a fab theme and I've done something a lil' different with it! It's just been my big girlies 14th birthday, so I wanted to make her a Sketch/Art Journal, that she could doodle in and draw in and generally be creative with.

I had spotted a fantastic Krista Smith image in my stash that was so 'beyond' perfect for her, as this year, my wee girlie has decided to flex some 'edgy' muscles and shaved some of her hair off! Yep, I cried, just a little, but don't tell her that, I was being really brave! This image is just SO perfect for her though, I can't even begin to tell you, so it's been so fun to create with it and to give her this special personalised gift on the morning of her birthday! I LOVED her reaction, she looked so closely at it and said, 'but Mum, it's me!', I nearly cried right there and then! She was so happy with it.

Highschool can be such a battlefield and my girlie is so strong but very sensitive and she's found things tough at times, so I just LOVE this Dr Seuss sentiment with this image. It really spoke to my heart and I hope will speak to hers! She took her time drinking in all the details, so hopefully it sinks in that she's beautiful and amazing just as she is. It never hurts to build up your young people, there are enough out there who want to knock them down!

I had some fun leopard print wrapping paper which went really well with the digital paper I'd used to create Georgie's Art Journal, so it looked rather nice the morning of her birthday all themed with animal print papers! Ah, yes, back to the challenge theme, Flora and Fauna, so the flora, is of course my wee blossom, but that may be lost on a few, so for good measure, I added some pretty fabric flowers from Flourish With A Bling, another lovely craft store we've lost this past year. The Fauna I represented with the leopard print paper. Not the usual interpretation for this theme I'm sure, but I think it really works! Just a lil' lateral thinking needed, hehe.

I hope you'll come and play along with us this week at Southern Girls. Such a fun theme and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's interpretation, so do come and play along if you can. Head over to the challenge to check out the fabulous creations by my teamies, they are a wonderfully talented bunch! I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure, so until then, I wish you a wonderful week and happy crafty adventures of your own! Hugs, Wends xoxo

Challenge Entries:
Cute Card Thursday: #572 ~ Anything Goes
Colour Crazy Challenge: #8 ~ Anything Goes
Lil' Patch of Crafty Friends: #101 ~ Anything Goes
As You Like It: Layers ~ One or Many? I'm definitely a multiple layers kinda gal. I admire those who can pull off the effortlessly chic single layer creations, but I'm just not one of them! I like layers and usually, plenty of them! Even with my CAS creations, there are very often layers. I've layered up glitter paper, patterned paper, ribbon, lace and the image for this simple by still quite layered design.

What a lovely Mama you are, my Krafty Kiwi Buddy! One day your lovely girl will realise how lucky she is to have such a lovely Mummy if she doesn't already know. The growing up years can be so difficult...on both sides! Can imagine your face when she shaved off her hair, but it's only hair...and it grows! She has to be herself! Hoping these words don't come back and bite me on the bum as my eldest granddaughter is definitely showing signs of being a teenager!!
Your beautiful birthday gift is a lovely idea...love the image and your take on the challenge theme

Stunning Wendy. What a delightful gift for your girl. This age is such a difficult time for them, testing their wings and the boundaries. With such a great mum like you, Georgie will get through this with ease.
