Fab 'n' Funky ~ All Creatures Great and Small

Hey there my lovely crafty friends. I'm here with my Fab 'n' Funky DT creation tonight. We are having a fun challenge theme this week, which is 'All Creatures Great and Small'. Love that! So I think a 'Lion' would be a great choice for this challenge and it just so happens we have friends who had a bubba called Leo and this is the card I created to celebrate that occasion. This gorgeous beastie is from the pen of the very talented Kristy Dalman from Some Odd Girl. I just LOVE the way she inks her creatures. They have such sweet faces!

I white embossed this gorgeous beastie onto water colour card and then used the emboss resist technique of watercolouring to create a frame for this beautiful creature. I felt it needed a little finishing touch, so I machine stitched around the frame. I added a tiny zig zag detail on three of the sides just for fun and to try something new. I wish my thread had been a little thicker and a little whiter, then it would have shown up better. But in reality, it's quite a lovely finish.

I tore the edges of the watercolour paper freehand and then mounted the image on quite thick foam, to pop it up from the card base. The sentiment I used for the 'WELCOME' message is from an older Some Odd Girl stamp set. It's fab actually and has some very cute baby messages on it.

I added the 'leo' with some loose alphabet stamps I've had in my stash 'forever'! So that was fun to give them an outing. It's a very simple creation, allowing that fabulous 'King of the Beasts' to take centre stage and using just a little simple watercolouring with a couple of distress ink shades for a bit of interest.

Thanks for popping in today. I hope you'll consider coming and joining in our fun challenge with your own 'creature creation'. Do pop into the Fab 'n' Funky blog to check out what the rest of my awesome DT sistah's got up to. You're sure to leave inspired!

I'll be back again VERY soon, as I've my Whimsy Wednesday creation to share with you later tonight, so be sure to pop back. Until then, hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo

Gorgeous card Wends - love how you have added the stitching - adding the zig zag in is always fun... maybe a blue thread would have shown up more?? (Just a thought)

Fabulous! Love this technique and your sweet lion looks wonderful against the beautiful blue background. I'm impressed with the stitching too I love the look of real stitching but I'm too lazy to get the sewing machine out...the closest I get is pokey tool and pen!
