Whimsy Wednesday ~ Squirreling Resources
Back so soon I hear you say?! Yes, I have my second DT creation of the day to share with you. This is my second creation for the New Digital Release at Whimsy Stamps and I just LOVE this lil' fella with his cheeks choc full of nuts! I think he's the cutest! Both the digital and the rubber stamps and dies release are AMAZING this month. I seriously am going to have to save some pennies!
I've gone for a shaped card base for this creation and I even hand stitched the border as I felt it needed a little something else to finish it, but I didn't want to cover the paper! So I hand stitched around the edge with a nice ochre coloured thread to tone in with the Autumnal theme. I kept the rest of it very simple, as I'd used such a sweet paper as the base, I didn't want to cover too much of it. I added a doily and realised it was totally the wrong colour, so I inked the doily up with one of my Copic pens to bring in a warm brown base to anchor the image. I tried several different browns before deciding on the one that I thought worked best.
I had fun colouring up this cutie. I used my copics to layer up the colour in his fur and kept adding strokes to try and make him look fluffy. There were quite a lot of 'browns' to colour in this image, so I tried to use a different brown family for each thing. The tree, the acorns and the Squirrel were all done with different tones of brown Copics. This was the finished colouring before I trimmed it down, a quick snapshot taken on my workdesk.
I didn't want to lose any of the lovely image or colouring, so I kept the image panel rectangular, just trimming in the sides a wee bit. I used a fab stitched border die from Whimsy Stamps to diecut a frame and then added a close frame of golden brown shimmer cardstock which I distressed the edges of before adding it to the card. The main card base is the same shimmer cardstock. It doesn't show well in these pics, but has a lovely golden shimmer to it.
To finish I added a very simple embellishment of some sweet lil' toadstools, which I just fussy cut the brown tops off a second diecut I did in brown shimmer paper and glued them over the original creamy base. I finished those with a few spots created with a gelly roll white pen and then adhered them to the raised panel with Olba glue.
So this is my second creation for our September New Release at Whimsy Stamps. Every month I think the images can't get any better and then they release them and I'm always so excited and blown away by the sweetness and fun of each new release. You won't be disappointed this month. There's so much Whimsy gorgeousness on offer!
I hope you've enjoyed my second creation for September with the new Whimsy Stamps goodies. I'll be back next week with my usual Whimsy Wednesday Inspiration post. So until then, have fun checking out the new goodies and I wish you happy crafty days! Hugs xoxo
