Whimsy Stamps ~ Dusk at the Tiki Bar
Hey crafty friends, I'm back with another Summerween creation. This time we're checking out the beautiful dusk sky from the Tiki Bar! The Spooks have been hanging out here on their Summerween break. I've created a fun slimline scene with two of the stamps from the stamps sets. There's one of these characters in each set and they're so fun!
Whether you like Piña Colada, a Blue Hawaiian, a Mai Tai, or a Shrunken Skull, these guys have got you covered! Pull up a stool and watch the sunset over the bay at Fester 'n' Rott's Tiki Bar. The views are to die for and they never run out of spirits! So our Summerween Spooks feel right at home!
I coloured up this fun skull mug with warm grey markers for the bone and cool grey for the teeth and to shape the eyes. I've used a mix of tropical colours to colour up the floral elements and gave the fluid at the top an orange shade to suggest this might contain a Shrunken Skull cocktail, a classic 1950's Tiki Cocktail made with equal parts of Gold Rum, Demerara Rum, Grenadine and Lime Juice. I had such fun colouring this and even added stripes and spots to the straws. This image comes from the Summerween Screams Stamp Set.
I coloured up this tropical cocktail container to look like it could be made from a coconut husk. I imagine this one contains a Piña Colada with all it's White Rum, Cream of Coconut and deliciously tropical Pineapple Juice yumminess! I added white gelly roll dots to make this straw spotty too. Fun little details! The centre of the flowers on both mugs have Glitter Brush Clear Marker on them to add a little dewy sparkle. This image comes from the Summerween Vibes Stamp Set.
This Tiki Bar belongs to Messieurs Fester and Rott and has done for many a year as is evidenced in the sun bleached sign hanging from the roof in the middle of the bar. Beloved by all who visit, these two know how to show you a good time. The greetings are warm, the drinks are cold and the music plays all night! I created the sign with one of the smaller frames from the Frame Labels Die Set, I stamped the sentiment from the Grave Epitaphs Stamp Set with VersaFine Clair Fallen Leaves Ink. It's a cooler brown and suited the worn aged look I wanted to give the sign. I used Pumice Stone, Weathered Wood and Lost Shadow to add the aged woodgrain streaks across the sign. I finished by edging the sign with a light distressing with Tea Dye. I found some tiny brads in one of my Idea-ology sets (Locket Keys) that had little phillips head screw details, so used those to create the fixings and let the legs be the struts connecting the sign to the roof. I mounted the sign on some 2mm foam to give it more of a sense of hanging freely from the roof.
I constructed this card with a fun die set called the Slimline Connected Rectangles Die. I die cut the lovely Just Beachy Slimline Scene as the base of the design, covered the open frame with strips of double sided adhesive but left the back strip in place. I used the sticky side in the open spaces to paper piece the diecut scene back into place. I diecut two layers of the frame from white cardstock and a third from dark woodgrain cardstock and layered these all together for some depth and dimension. I wanted it to look as though you were sitting at the Tiki Bar, looking through the struts of the shack down to the beach. I put the frame once it was all glued together over the paper pieced base layer and removing the backing to the now completely paper pieced base, added it to a slimline card base. It's at this point, I realised, I could just have diecut the frame layers and added them to the base scene without diecutting that too! But I did like how easy it was to line up all the layers since it had been diecut. It gave me a definite framework to follow.
I hope you enjoyed my Tiki Bar creation. I'd love to know what you think of it! Do go and check out what all my teamies get up to with this fun set!
