Whimsy Stamps ~ Autumn Hues

Hey crafty friends, I'm popping in with a card I made for my Mother-in-law's birthday featuring a really pretty Autumn Stencil from Whimsy Stamps. I absolutely LOVE how this card came together and I was so happy with the pretty Autumn Hues I managed to get through the stencilling. This card has a lot of shimmer and shine, which cannot be appreciated fully in the stills, but I did my best to capture. I made this card during the Online Card Class I did that focused on Stencilling. Such a great class!

I used the lovely border of the Fall Dangle Stencil to create the falling leaves on this card, I used a mix of Autumnal Distress Oxide Inks, plus Memento New Sprout Dye Ink for the green. I really like this green and it worked so well for that little touch of green on the turning leaves.

After I'd done the stencilling, I decided to add some sparkle to the leaves, so I sprayed some  Hero Arts Shimmer Mist onto an acrylic block and used a blending brush to add it through the stencil onto the leaves. Just lightly, so I didn't lift the ink.

I wanted to add some interest to the centre of the card, but didn't want to spray over the stencilling and lose any of those pretty hues, so I masked the leaves loosely and sprayed the middle with a few different Mica Sprays. I wish I'd taken the time to mask the leaves a little more closely, as the white between the leaves looks quite stark compared to the middle.

I decided the splatter looked a little like a muddy path surrounded by raked leaves, so opted to just run with it, rather than try to match the shimmer and risk losing the pretty hues on the leaves. I inkblended a beautiful 'Autumn' word die from Whimsy from a panel I had ink blended the colours I'd used for the leaves in a gradient of colours, I diecut the shadow layer of the word die from vellum and then cut another strip of vellum that I could heat emboss a sub-sentiment onto.

I used the Simple Sentiment Strips Clear Stamp Set and did some partial stamping to get the sentiment combination I wanted. I masked the word happy and just stamped birthday, but wanted the word blessings which this stamp set, did not have, so found another in my stash that did and happily had a really similar font. I can't put my hand on that set now I'm blogging this, so will update when I find it. I used Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide to stamp the sentiment and then added sparkle embossing powder over it.

Just before adding the sub-sentiment, I took a shot of the card in brighter sunlight to capture the sparkle, it really does have the prettiest shimmer. I did end up spraying a light coat of Hero Arts Shimmer Mist over the whole card despite take the time to stencil it on so carefully over the leaves, but I wanted that area to blend better with the centre and I think the trick worked. It's very pretty when the light catches it.

Thanks for popping in to visit today. I hope you enjoyed this crafty adventure, I'll be back with a Halloween adventure very soon! There are only 5 more days to go here in New Zealand! I can't believe how fast this year is flying!! Hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo
