Whimsy Stamps ~ Batty For Halloween Décor

Hey crafty friends, I am back with a fun Halloween décor idea. If you've followed me a while, you may know I love creating my own Halloween décor and this year, I've gathered up some fallen twigs from a local tree trimming, which were perfect for the vision I had in mind for this décor piece. I grab these opportunities when they present themselves, always with an 'ooh that'd make a cool crafty...' idea in my head!

Quite a simple décor idea, but you do need a few things to get you started. Firstly, a long thin vase works best, an armful of fallen twiggy branches, some black heavyweight cardstock and some white for the eyes, Whimsy's Batty Die Set and of course your die-cutting machine.

You can 'pop up' the above photos by clicking on them if you'd like a closer look. I just wanted to give the overview of the sizes together. I've added the bats in different flying positions, some I've attached from the body and some from the wings to add a random and whimsical feel to the piece. I knew when I saw this batty die set from Whimsy with their kooky eyes, it would make such fun Halloween décor pieces!! I added the branches to the tall thin vase and splayed them out as I'd like them to look. There was a particularly long branch that reaches right to the roof! (The vase is up on a high surface and it's a tall vase, so easily achieved, but looks cool.)

I diecut the bats in all their various sizes multiple times. Then added their fun wonky eyes. They are hilarious and adorable. I then set about adding them to the branches. I cut around 25 bats for my décor piece. I could have added a few more, but was happy with how it looked at 25. I did a mix of sizes and added the bigger ones towards the bottom and smaller ones towards the top to play on the perspective of them looking smaller further away and larger closer. The tiniest I added to the very top branches. I wanted it to look as though they'd just been disturbed and were rising up flying out of the branches. The easiest way I've found to adhere them to the branches is with sticky glue dots. They're see-through, so don't really show and grip both surfaces so well! The shadow play from these bats is just wonderful. I have been enjoying so much watching the dancing shadows as the light changes over the day. It really is a striking and fun Halloween décor piece. Do you create your own Halloween décor? I'd love to know what you've made for your Halloween decorating.

If you've been following my Halloween crafting adventures, you'll know we've just had a really fun Halloween themed release on September 1st and we'll soon be sharing the next release on September 15th, which promises to be full of Halloween magic too! I am particularly excited to have my very own poem (written by me 10 years ago) turned into a fabulous sentiment set by the very talented Deb Davis!! High five for an awesome collaboration. I could not be more thrilled with what Deb did to bring this poem to life as a sentiment stamp! For a limited time, you can get this poem stamp as a FREEBIE if you spend more than $50 on Whimsy Stamps physical products. It's not automatically added to your cart, you do need to add it, but it will be automatically discounted once your cart reaches over $50. Let me know if you get the stamp, I'd love to see what you create with it! You're also able to purchase it separately, so whatever suits your budget.

Thank you friends for popping in to check out my latest crafty adventure, I appreciate not all of you are as crazy about Halloween crafting as I am, so thank you for indulging me if that's the case! There will be many more Halloween makes from me through September and October, but they'll be peppered with some other makes too, so I hope you'll still pop in even if Halloween isn't your thing. Hugs and happy crafting, Wends xoxo
