Whimsy Stamps ~ Happy Birthday Deb!
Hey crafty friends, it's Deb Davis Birthday today. Deb is our Creative Director at Whimsy Stamps and one of the best women I know! Deb Davis is amazing and super talented and there are two things I know well about this gorgeous woman, she LOVES Halloween and is our Halloween Queen at Whimsy Stamps. She is in large part the reason we have such a cool Halloween range! It's her jam and very close to her heart for some very sweet reasons, but you'll have to visit her blog for those stories! She also has a wicked sense of humour. The sassy irreverent cheeky lines at Whimsy are also in large part due to her, so of course, I needed to channel both those things in my birthday make for her. Cue the violins and Morticia style black roses, here come the cheeky sentiments!
I have used a huge number of Whimsy elements to create this cute scene and did a little creative editing of the Witch Whispers Die Set by removing her broom. I've sat her on a cute mushroom from Whimsy's Build-a-Fairy Garden Die Set, the little grass trim is cut from the same set. She's holding a little Crystal Ball like Gem as if predicting the coming year for Deb. I just thought it'd be a fun touch.
The beautiful cobwebs background is from the Slimline Spider Webs Background Rubber Cling Stamp, which I heat embossed with silver embossing powder and ink blended distress oxides over in Spun Sugar up top and Victorian Velvet on the lower half in an ombré blend. I added some spider webs from the Spiders and Webs Die Set. I misted these with some Distress Mica Spray Stain in Phantom Mist. I had a paper towel down with some residue from a previous spritzing session and hadn't realised until these dried that I'd reactivated some of the more goldy tones from the Harvest Moon Mica Spray. But I chose to keep this look, as it just added a grubby older web kind of feel to them, which I didn't mind. The cheeky sentiment, there goes another year up in smoke, won't be lost on my lovely pal as this year has thrown its share of curveballs to her.
To create the lovely pink shine on the EEK Word Die, I used a pale pink Stencil Butter from The Crafter's Workshop called Pink Lemonade. I just spread this on some cardstock with my finger and let it dry. The sparkly black web shaped diecut behind the lettering was cut with the Nested Webs Die Set from Whimsy, out of some Black Glitter Foam from Spellbinders. I love the drama this adds to the card.
I added another sentiment at the bottom of the design for giggles, I know this will appeal to Deb's sense of humour. This comes from the very fun stamp set called Random Funny Swear Words which was designed by Deb! I think the font style and choices in this set is brilliant.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what I created for Deb's birthday. I had such fun putting this together and had been working on it for a while, but only just finished this yesterday and spent the day chasing light as it had rained all day! So the version I have shared on Instagram features the photos done at night, I've retaken the photos to catch the natural light better which I've shared in this post. I paired this card with a lovely pink slimline envelope to complete the make and I was delighted to get a pretty close match in the pink of the envelope.
Deb is being celebrated by our entire design team at Whimsy today and posts are being shared with the hashtags #ampedtostamp and #whimsystampsbirthdaygirldeb over on Instagram, so if you'd like to see the team posts, you can look up those hashtags. You can see my post here. I'll be sharing a reel of the card soon too. The team will also share their makes in our Facebook Group linked via the banner below for quick reference.
I went to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with my youngest at the cinema today. We dressed up for the fun and we had such a blast! A perfect way to celebrate Deb's birthday! Wishing you all a brilliant week. Hugs, Wends xoxo
(I share thumbnails to the elements I design with in order to make your search for them easier, in case you like something I've used. I do use affiliate links where possible, which gives me a tiny commission but costs you no extra whatsoever. It helps the companies I design for to improve their marketing practice and track my contributions. I am deeply grateful if you use them for these reasons. I am proud to design for the companies I do and always feel happy to share where my inspiration and where my crafty stash comes from. I am occasionally gifted products to use, but I only design for companies whose products I absolutely love and buy for myself. My opinions are always my own.)
